|
This often occurs when an author wants to convey that a certain fanfic is centered around a specific couple of either canon or fan origin within a franchise. Example: SonicXAmy or Sonic X Amy. Can also be written by combining names of the people involved such as ShadAmy (Shadow X Amy).

AU
|
Abbreviation meaning "Alternate Universe". Stories with this attached to their descriptions generally involve characters from a specific franchise, but are placed in an area or a universe of the author's creation. Example: All the Inuyasha characters in a High School setting.

Crossover
|
A fanfiction consisting of two seperate fandoms or franchises combined into one story. Example: Sailor Moon/DBZ (a / represents a crossover of the two franchises).

Drabble
|
A term used to describe a fanfiction with multiple chapters that are unrelated (usually) to each other. Sometimes centered around a particular theme (like a couple). Drabbles are also very short in length with each chapter being 500 words or so.

Fluff
|
Fanfics marked with this term will mostly contain light elements of romance such as kissing or hugging.

Lemon
|
This ONLY occurs in fanfics that are heavily written with sexual references, situations, or undertones. Read these kinds of fics at your own risk.

OC
|
Abbreviation meaning "Original Character". This term is commonly appointed with fan characters made by the author to fit into a certain franchise's world. Should not be confused with "OOC".

One-Sided
|
A romance term implying that a couple within the fiction is only by one person. In other words, there will be a character who likes another character but the character receiving the affection does not reciprocate the feelings. Example: SonAmy with one-sided ShadAmy or InuKag with one-side InuSan. This term does not always specify the character showing a main couple character unrequited affection.

Oneshot
|
Term used to describe fanfics that are only one chapter long. In other words, "one-chapter wonders". Oneshots never have more than one chapter, they always consist of one whole story in ONE chapter.

OOC
|
Abbreviation meaning "Out of Character". This term describes characters in a franchise that are not acting as they normally would. This can be taken as a good or bad thing as some humor fics require characters to not be in character. Example: Sonic thinking before he takes action.

PWP
|
A descriptive abbreviation meaning "Porn Without Plot", or alternatively "Plot? What Plot?"
|
R & R
|
Only found on FF.Net, this is normally put into a summary or in an author note to ask readers to "read and review".

Slash
|
A term commonly used to identify fics where gay or lesbian coupling might occur.
|
Twincest
|
A term used to identify fics with a couple that are related as twins. This can be a sexual reference term too. Example: Yoh and Hao from Shaman King are often subjected to this by some fans.

Two-Shot
|
This is what happens if the author of a fanfiction adds another chapter to a oneshot. If anymore chapters are added after that, then it becomes just a normal fanfiction.

Yaoi
|
Term used to describe fics with heavy maleXmale romance. Can also include sexual occurences based on the rating.

Yuri
|
Same as Yaoi, only with girls.
